Jesus said, “ I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” This abundant life comes from god who proved His love for us by giving His Son that we might partake of this life.

Another way that God provides for this ‘full” life is creating those who will love us. This couple has found each other. It is not the ceremony that will join this couple but God’s love and grace.

As God has shown his love, they also with demonstrate this love by giving themselves, one to the other.

Religious Wedding Ceremony

Two

Dearly Beloved, we gather today before God to witness and to celebrate the marriage of _______and __________in Holy Matrimony.  This is a defining moment in the growth of their life and love together.  Through this love, they have enriched their life and have made each stronger in their faith.  Having found each other and establishing this loving relationship, they have come here today to sanctify it and give it special meaning. This is not a magic service or a tool to build a relationship, but rather reinforce the relationship they have already.  It is a time to tie a knot in the rope of days they have spent together and say “we will not slip backward from here,  but will move forward from this day forward, together.  It is the time for vows and intentions.  This is their day to declare the promise that they will face uncertainty together, the love for one another, and their desire to be together all the days of their lives.

The Apostle Paul wrote’ If I speak with the tongues of humans and angels, but have not love, I am but a sounding gong or a tinkling cymbal.  Love is patient and is kind.  It does not envy. It is not proud.  Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered.  Love keeps no record of wrongs.  It does not rejoice in evil, but delights in the truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always preserves. Love never fails.  Now abide faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love. ___________and __________, you have heard the Bible’s definition of love. It is a high and lofty one, but the only one worthy of efforts. I invite you now to state publicly your promises to live together with this kind of pure love for one another.

Groom-I,  _____, take you ______, to be my wedded wife. To have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish  from this day forward till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.

Bride- I, _____, take you ______, to be my wedded husband. To have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,  from this day forward, till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.

And so come _________________and _________________to the presentation of rings by which you symbolize and bind your love.

Bride- Place the ring on your groom's finger and repeat after me.

Our love is even more precious than this ring and more enduring than this band of precious metal. I place this bank on your finger as a symbol of my love for you and for the vows we have spoken here today.

Groom-Place the ring on your bride's finger and repeat after me.

Our love is even more precious than this ring and more enduring than this band of precious metal. I place this bank on your finger as a symbol of my love for you and for the voews we have spoken here today.

In the presence of God, your family and friends today, you have spoken the words and performed the rites which unite your lives. It is my legal right as minister and my greatest joy and privilege to declare you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to present to you for the first time. Mr. and Mrs. ______________

These miracles indicate that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the Sovereign and the Creator of the universe and the wedding ceremony was the first used to demonstrate this glorious fact. The Bible which is the Word of God declares marriage to be honorable. It was ordained of God during the time of man’s innocence before he sinned against the Lord. Since marriage is a divine institution, it is to be entered into soberly and discreetly, as in His sight.

God Himself united the first members of the human family, which fact along abolishes all frivolous views of marriage.  The bridegroom and bride are to be partners in life, each forsaking mother and father to cleave unto the other.  They share a common name, a united household, a common experience, and a love which blesses and transcends all cares and trials of life.  These vows are to be broken only by death.

Officiate to the groom- Do you ______________take_____________to be your lawful and wedded wife?

Groom- I do

Officiate to groom- Do you promise to love, to cherish, to honor, to protect, forsaking all others, in sickness as well as in health, in adversity as well as in prosperity, for better or for worse, and to cleave only to her so long as you both shall live?

Groom- I do

Officiate to the bride- Do you ______________take_____________to be your lawful and wedded husband?

Bride- I do

Officiate to bride- Do you promise to love, to cherish, to honor, forsaking all others, in sickness as well as in health, in adversity as well as in prosperity, for better or for worse, and to cleave only to him so long as you both shall live?

Bride- I do

Officiate- Who gives ______to be married to _____________?

Bride’s Father- Her mother and I do

Officiate to groom-  What token do you give to show that you will faithfully perform these vows?

Groom A ring

Officiate- The circle which forms this ring is the emblem of eternity and the beautiful metal out of which it is made is the type that will least tarnish and be the most enduring.  It is to show how lasting and imperishable, the faith now mutually pledged is to be.

Officiate to the groom- Place the ring on your bride's finger and repeat after me.
With this ring, I pledge myself to thee with all the affections of my heart, so long as we both shall live.

Officiate to bride-  What token do you give to show that you will faithfully perform these vows?

Bride-A ring

Officiate to the bride- Place the ring on your groom's finger and repeat after me.
With this ring, I pledge myself to thee with all the affections of my heart, so long as we both shall live.

Let us unite in prayer. We thank thee, Heavenly Father, for this home that is now called into existence and ask Thy blessings upon this couple _all the days of their lives. We ask that as they unite into one family, they will glorify Thee.  We ask that they will serve Thee and that their lives together might present the glorious truth of God’s Word, the union of Christ, and the Church. Bless them to this end, for we ask it in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The scripture declares love is forbearing and kind; love knows no jealously, love does not brag, is not conceited.  Love is  not unmannerly, nor selfish, nor irritable, nor mindful of wrongs.  Love does not rejoice in injustice, but joyfully sides with the truth.  Love can overlook faults and is full of trust, hope, and endurance. Lover never fails.

Having heard the pledges of your affection, and the vows of your fidelity, I do therefore by virtue of the authority invested in me by the laws of the state of Arizona. Before God, whose grace to you is unmeasured, and before these witnesses, I pronounce you husband and wife, and what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.

You may kiss your bride.

Ladies and Gentlemen, May I present to you Mr. and Mrs. _________________

Zion

Minister- Dearly beloved, We are gathered here, in the presence of God and of this company, that (bride) ___ and (groom) ___ may be united in holy matrimony. We are here to celebrate and share in the glorious act that God is about to perform, the act by which He converts their love for one another into the holy and sacred estate of marriage.

This relationship is an honorable and sacred one, established by our Creator for the welfare and happiness of mankind and approved by the Apostle Paul as honorable among all men. Designed to unite two sympathies and hopes into one, it rests upon the mutual confidence and devotion of husband and wife.

May it be in extreme thoughtfulness and reverence and in dependence upon divine guidance that you enter now into this holy relationship?

Giving of the bride

Minister - Being assured that your love and your choice of each other as lifelong companions are in God’s will and that you have your families’ blessings, I now ask, “Who gives this woman to be married to this man?”

Bride’s Family-We do

Minister - The apostle, Paul compared the relationship between husband and wife to that between Christ and the church. Marriage is a decision of two individuals to share the same type of Christian love described by Paul.
1 Cor. 13, 4-8  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not seeking. Love is not easily angered and keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always perseveres. Love never fails.

This kind of love enriches each part of life and marriage enriches love. Two lives, shared with this kind of love, can hold more fulfillment and happiness than either life.

Minister (groom)________,  are you ready to enter into this marriage with (bride) ____, believing the love you share and your faith in each other will endure all things?
Groom - I am.
Minister (bride)____ are you ready to enter into this marriage with (groom) ____, believing the love you share and your faith in each other will endure all things?

Bride - I am.

Minister- (groom)________, do you take__________ (bride) to be your wedded wife, to live together after God’s ordinance in holy matrimony? Do you promise to love her, to honor and cherish her, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, and to be to her in all things a good and faithful husband, as long as you both shall live?

Groom- I do.

Minister- (bride)________, do you take__________ (groom) to be your wedded husband, to live together after God’s ordinance in holy matrimony? Do you promise to love him, to honor and cherish him, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, and to be to him in all things a good and faithful wife as long as you both shall live?
Bride - I do
Minister- Groom repeating. I, (groom) ____ take thee     (bride) ____ to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer of poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part. According to God’s holy ordinance, and thereto I pledge thee my faith.
Minister - Bride repeating. I, (bride) ____ take thee  (groom) ____ to be my wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer of poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part. According to God’s holy ordinance, and thereto I pledge thee my faith.

Father in heaven, You ordained marriage for you children and You gave us love. We present to You ________ and ________ who come this day to be married. May the covenant of love they make be blessed with true devotion and spiritual commitment.   We ask that You, God will give them the ability to keep the covenant they have made. When selfishness shows itself, grant generosity, when mistrust is a temptation, give moral strength, when there is misunderstanding, give patience and gentleness, if suffering becomes a part of their lives, give them a strong faith and an abiding love. Amen

Minister- It is a Christian custom to exchange rings as a symbol of love.  As the rings have no end so your love should have no end.  As the rings are made of gold symbolizing of purity, so should your marriage have purity. Each time you see these ring, you will remember this moment and the promise of unending love you made to each other.

Minister to Groom -What token do you give that you will perform your vows?

Groom- This ring is a symbol of my undying love and caring. I offer it as a sign of unending purpose to be a true and constant partner with you in our new beginnings.

Minister to Bride  -What token do you give that you will perform your vows? Bride- This ring is a symbol of my undying love and caring. I offer it as a sign of unending purpose to be a true and constant partner with you in our new beginnings.

By the authority vested in me by my church and by the state of Arizona, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

You may now kiss your bride

I am pleased to present to you this day, Mr. and Mrs. _______________

Congratulations

No siente envidia.

Non-Religious

Ceremony One

Dearly beloved, we gathered here in the presence this company to join _____________and______________________in the hold bonds of matrimony. One of the most beautiful writings about this affair called marriage comes from “The Prophet,” written by Kahil Gabran. He writes;

Love one another, but make not a bond of love

Let it be as a moving sea between the shores of your souls

Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup

Give one another of your bread, but not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone

Even as the strings of the lute are alone, though they quiver with the same music.

Give your heart, but not unto each other’s keeping for only the bonds of life can contain your hearts

And stand together, yet not too near, for as the pillars of the temple stand apart and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow

Remember that love gives nothing but from itself

Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed for love is sufficient unto love and think not that you can direct the course of love.

For love, if it finds you worthy, will direct your course

Today you will exchange your vows of marriage that will unite you as husband and wife.

Who give this bride in marriage?

Officiate to the groom- Repeat after me.

_____________(Bride’s name), you are my greatest love and my last love. Until I met you, I didn’t give true love much thought, but since you came into my life, I struggle desperately to find the words to tell you how much I love you and how I adore you.

It is difficult for me to verbalize my feelings for you because mere words can’t begin to express my deep love. I thank God for you and pledge myself to you now, to be your ever-faithful husband. I give you my mind, my body, and my heart, and I promise to love you and cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

Officiate to the bride- Repeat after me.

As you have been by my side though my darkest hours, so I will be a light in your life. I will listen to your concerns and not judge. I will lift you up and support you through laughter and through tears. As you have cared for me in times of infirmity, so I will keep you sheltered when storms arise. I will be the rock that you lean on and the wings that allow you to fly. As you have inspired me to follow my dreams so I will strive to help you achieve your goals. Dearly beloved, we gather together today, here in the presence of God and this company to join __________and ____________in the holy bonds of matrimony. Marriage is an institution ordained by God who created man and placed him in the midst of a beautiful garden, rich in the earth’s choicest fruits. He gave him blessed employment, free from anxiety and toil, in caring for the garden. At first man was alone, having no human associate and helper. Birds and bees and all of the living creatures on earth could not bring him satisfaction. God s noted man’s incompleteness and lack of perfect happiness apart from woman. Now follows the beautiful story of the forming of woman from the side of man.

Let us not forget the great lessons God would teach us by this story. Let us look at the proper relations between a husband and a wife. “ that she was not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled on by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected and near his heart to be loved.  When god made woman, he made her to be man’s helper and companion. “I will make for him a helper, as his counterpart,” said God. What nobler mission could woman desire than this? This is no tie on earth so binding and so sacred as that, which binds men and women in the holy bonds of matrimony. One must not enter such a relationship thoughtlessly, insincerely, or indiscreetly, but entered advisedly, thoughtfully, and in the love of God.

Who gives this bride?

Officiate to the bride- Repeat after me- I take you to be my wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish till death do us part and therein I pledge you my faith and my love.

Officiate to the bride- Repeat after me. Since we have been together, you have provided me with strength, security, confidence, honesty, love, and plenty of much needed guidance. Where there was cold, you have brought warmth and where my life was dark, you brought me light. In my darkest trouble, in my coldest silence, I looked for you and you were there. You are truly my knight in shining armor. You may not realize it, but you have helped me and saved me in so many ways and I love you for that. You honor me by having me as your wife and you make me proud to have you as my husband. I believe God meant us to be together and I will always love you with all my heart. I vow to you that you are a star from the heavens and I promise to love, honor and cherish you for all the days of my life. You are my pearl of choice, my strength at my side. My love for you will never fade. You are my love, my life, and my husband. May God bless our marriage in peace and happiness for all time?

Who holds the rings?

Groom- Repeat after me. With this ring, I thee wed. Take it and wear it as a symbol of al that we shall share.

Bride- Repeat after me. With this ring, I seal the commitment I have made to you today. May you wear it proudly as my husband.

By the virtue of the authority vested in my by my church, and the state of Arizona, I pronounce you husband and wife. May you live together in blissful happiness from this day forward?

May I be the first to present you as Mr. and Mrs. ________________.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered her in the sight of God and before His Church to witness the union of this man and this woman in holy matrimony. God instituted and blessed this honorable estate that ___________(groom) and _______________(bride) wish to enter.

Right now ___________(groom) and ____________(bride)

are fulfilled by an appreciation of each other, without pretence or disguise. But from this, you will create commitments of honesty and a unity of purpose. These commitments, expressed in your promise to love, honor and cherish are of a solemn nature and we cannot take them lightly. We would do well to remember daily, the words found in your wedding vows.

Love is far more than a physical or emotional thing. Love describes a very special relationship between a man and a woman, one built on shared experiences within the marriage contract.

Honor speaks to the high esteem in which you hold each other and the respect that you have for one another. Honor speaks to the way that you respond to each other in bad times as well as the good times.

And finally, cherish is indicated by the value that you place on one another and your marital relationship and that you hold each other as the dearest one in your life. It means that you will build each other up and in all things, encourage each other without demanding.

So now I ask ______________, (groom) do you take?

________________(bride) to be your lawful wedded wife; to love, honor, and cherish her in sickness and in health and to forsake all others, keeping yourself only for her?

So now I ask ______________, (bride) do you take

________________(groom) to be your lawful wedded husband; to love, honor, and cherish her in sickness and in health and to forsake all others, keeping yourself only for him?

Officiate to the bride- Repeat after me and place the ring on the ring finger. ______________(groom), I give you this symbol of my pledge for a faithful love and remembrance of our vows.

Officiate- Will you please hold hands?

With the joining of your hands you are taking upon yourselves the relationship of husband and wife. You have promised to love, honor, and cherish each other as such.

You have come here as two individuals and you will leave her as one, united by marriage.  May nothing in life come in-between you to sever this bond.  May all of your loved ones, here and away, always enjoy the warmth of your love.

And now, in accordance with the laws of the state of __________ and with the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.

The almighty and gracious God abundantly grant you His favor and sanctify and bless you with the blessings given to Adam and Eve in paradise, that you may please Him in both body and soul and live together in holy love until your live’s end.

You may seal the promises you have now made with a kiss.

If you are to have the trusting place in your marriage, you must toward it by cultivating your mutual interests and aspirations.

He says

Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful, and it is not arrogant or rude.

Officiate to the groom- Repeat after me.

I give you this ring as a symbol of my love.

We learn from the inspired word that the Lord Jesus honored the marriage ceremony with His presence working there the beginning of His miracles.

The bridegroom and bride are to be partnera in life, each forsaking mother and father to cleave unto the other.

Bride- I do

Officiate- Who giveth ______to be married to _____________?

Bride’s Father- Her mother and I do

Officiate to groom-  What token do you give to show that you will faithfully perform these vows?

Groom A ring

Officiate- The circle which forms this ring is the emblem of eternity and the beautiful metal out of which it is made is the type that will least tarnish and be the most enduring.  It is to show how lasting and imperishable, the faith now mutually pledged is to be.

Officiate to the groom- Place the ring on _________’s finger and repeat after me.

With this ring, I pledge myself to thee with all the affections of my heart, so long as we both shall live.

Officiate to bride-  What token do you give to show that you will faithfully perform these vows?

Bride-A ring

Officiate to the bride- Place the ring on _________’s finger and repeat after me.

With this ring, I pledge myself to thee with all the affections of my heart, so long as we both shall live.

Let us unite in prayer. We thank thee, Heavenly Father, for this home that is now called into existence and ask Thy blessings upon _________________and ____________all the days of their lives.

Having heard the pledges of your affection, and the vows of your fidelity, I do therefore by virtue of the authority invested in me by the laws of the state of ______________, before God, whose grave to you is unmeasured, and before these witnesses, I pronounce you husband and wife, and what God has joined together, let no man put asunder.

You may kiss your bride.

Renewal Vows Ceremony

Marriage Vow Renewal

Entrance Processional- Husband escorts his wife down the aisle and faces the minister. The minister opens the service with this prayer.

Dear Lord in the New Testament you say that wherever two or more of us are joined in your Name that You will be there also. We humbly pray that You would join us now as

________________and______________stand before You today to renew and reaffirm their vows of love and marriage. Please be with them, and let this union continue to endure and progress in the love they have for each other. Amen.

Minister- Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to reaffirm the vows of love and marriage that exists between ____________and _______________.  Marriage is a most honorable estate created by our Lord signifying unto us the mystical union between a man and a woman; this union also exists between Christ and His Church. So to may this marriage be adorned also by a true and everlasting love that we pray shall continue though eternity.

When Christ performed His miracle at the wedding of Cana in Galilee by turning water into wine, He showed the world His respect for this Holy Sacrament. The Bible commends marriage for all people to honor.

 Bible reading from Corinthians:

 Love endures and is kind

Love is not envious or jealous

Love wants not for itself

Love is not puffed up, nor does it behave wrongly

Love seeks not for its own

Love is not easily provoked

Love is not rude

Love thins no evil

Love does not rejoice in wrong, but dwells in the truth

Love bears all things, believes all things, endures all things

And love never fails

The union of husband and wife is one of the heart, mind, and body. The Lord intended this union for their mutual joy, for the help and comfort give to one another in times of prosperity and adversity. The union grows as the couple becomes one in more and more ways on a growing basis as their love for one another expands.

God gives us life as individuals. We must learn how to live with one another. As a married couple, we must learn is how to live together. Our family and friends give love to us and we learn to love by receiving this love. Learning to love and leaning to live together are two of life’s greatest challenges. This is the goal of a married life.

But the husband and wife should not confuse the love of worldly measures, for even if they find worldly success, only love can hold a marriage together. Mankind did not create love; God created love and teaches it to us. The measure of a true love is one that one gives freely and freely accepted, just as God’s gives his love to us, freely and unconditionally. Today is a glorious day that God has made as you reaffirm your love and vows for each other. Both of you are blessed with god’s greatest gift of all, an abiding and true love of each other, and the reward of a life long companionship that entered your life through the love in your lives. As you travel through this life together, remember it was love that got you here. It is love that will continue in your lives and it is love that cause this union to endure. I ask that you guard your heart and your love for one another, and hold it tight in your souls.

The Rose Ceremony

During the rose ceremony, the bride and groom exchange roses after the officiate speaks about the rose being a symbol of love. He reminds the couple to always remember the significance of the red rose.  "The significance of the flower communion is that as no two flowers are alike, so no two people are alike, yet each has a contribution to make. Make in your home, a special place for red roses and that on each wedding anniversary, you celebrate it, by each bringing a red rose to this special place. Red roses can also be used during difficult times of a marriage to remind each partner of the vows they speak today. This service can be inserted into any wedding ceremony following the pronouncement as man and wife.

Officiate-  You have already given the gift of your wedding rings which is an outward sign of your love and commitment to one another and taken on the title of husband and wife.  As your first gift as husband and wife, you will now present to your partner, a single red rose. The red rose is a symbol of love and a single rose means, “I love you.”

You may now exchange a kiss.

The bride and groom may give these roses their new mother in law on the way out following the wedding.

ROSE FOR THE MOTHERS CEREMONY

Giving a rose to the mothers and/or grandmothers is usually done at the beginning of the wedding ceremony.  The bride presents the rose to the mother of the groom and the groom presents the flower to the mother of the bride.  This part of the service can be presented by the wedding officiate who says, “

"We come here today, not only to join these two beloved souls in marriage, but also as a celebration of the joining of two unique families. Today we unite these families by the marriage of ___________and_____________ who would like to honor the joining of their families, with the giving of a rose to their mothers.  They would also like to aknowledge the love and sacrifices that each mother has made to make her children who they are today, a man and woman who are ready to be in a committed, loving marriage of their own."  (Bride and Groom, together, present a rose to each mother)

 SAND BLENDING CEREMONY

The "Blending of the Sands" ceremony is a beautiful alternative to the " unity ceremony. Unlike the Unity Candle which is always a question with outdoor ceremonies, the sand blending is always safe and secure and not disturbed by a windy day.  This is a perfect ceremony for both a couple and also a couple with children.  Each member of the newly formed family pours into a common container a different colored sand symbolizing the joining of each person into a new family group.

This ceremony requires small vials of colored sand for the bride and groom and every child if children are involved.  The colored sands represent the lives of each one participating in the sand blending ceremony.  The blended sand can be used later to display or as a base of fresh flowers after the wedding.

The sand can be purchased at most arts and craft stores. Sand can also be poured from small seashells into a beautiful container.  Finding the containers is an opportunity for the bride-to-be to use her creativity.  Have your names and your wedding date etched in the glass bottle prior to the ceremony. The combined sand is a perfect wedding keepsake for the bride and groom to remember their vows made on their wedding day.

THE LOVING CUP CEREMONY

The use of the wine cup or Loving Cup at a wedding is an ancient tradition. In the 15th century Celtic people toasted each other with a ceremonial Loving Cup. Scots called this cup a quaich, from the Celtic word cuach, meaning cup. The Loving Cup ceremony is also found in Irish and Jewish cultures. Loving Cups come in many designs, shapes, sizes and colors with two handles setting it apart from all others. Some couples choose use a glass cup and etch their names and the date of their wedding. The purpose of the Loving Cup ceremony is for the bride and groom to share their first drink together as wife and husband and to show the joining together of two families. This cup brings happiness and good luck as it is passed down from generation to generation. This is a special moment for the couple to toast their love, devotion, and friendship.

This dialogue can be inserted into any wedding ceremony following the pronouncement of husband and wife.

Officiate- The wine represents the years of life you have lived. It is sweet and symbolizes the happiness, joy, and love you have shared.   The wine also has some bitterness and symbolizes life’s trials and tribulations. Together, they symbolize "Life’s Journey" and all of the experiences you have shared separately.  Now, you will share the wine from this Loving Cup telling the world that you will share all things, good and bad from this day forward with love and understanding.

Officiate pours wine into the Loving Cup and holds it up.

Officiate-This cup of wine is symbolic of the cup of life. As you all share the wine from the Loving Cup, you undertake to share all that the future may bring. It represents the blessing given and passed on to each participant in this ceremony. Things that are sweet will be magnified for the two of you will share them. Things that are bitter will be less for the two of you will share them.

Drink now, and may the cup of your lives be sweet and running over with blessings.

The bride and groom sip wine from the wedding cup and hand it back to the officiate.

Officiate- Sip to the love that you have shared in the past.

Couple sips.

Officiate- Sip to the moment that two shall become one.

Couple sips.

Officiate- Sip to your future and the love that will grow with each passing day.

 Couple sips.

Officiate- Just as you have shared this wine from the Loving Cup, so you will share your lives, exploring the mysteries of love and seeing the reflection of the love contained in each of your souls for as it is said, “ From love all things come and unto love must they return.  May you find joy in your lives and have many days together in your lives journey.

The Loving Cup ceremony can end here or the Anam Cara can be added on.

Anam Cara

The Anam Cara is the Celtic version of a soul mate. The words translate from the Gaelic as “soul friend.” Anam cara is translated from the Gaelic as "soul friend." When one joins with their anam cara, they are part of an ancient rite and joined forever with their soul mate.  The bride and groom holding the loving cup repeat this promise to each other together.

Anam Cara
Today I recognize you, my anam cara
And ask that you become a part of me, in sacred kinship.
With you, I have lost all fear and have found the greatest courage.
I have learned to love and let myself be loved.
With you, I have found a rhythm of grace and gracefulness.
Love has reawakened in my life; a rebirth; a new beginning.
With you my anam cara,
I am understood, I am home.

THE LASSO CEREMONY

This tradition is usually associated with Hispanic and Filipino families. The Lasso comes down through Hispanic and Filipino families, sometimes called a “lazzo.” This beaded rope is placed around the bride and groom's shoulders after their vows to symbolize their everlasting union. Lasso (sometimes called, "lazo") or rope is placed around the bride and groom's shoulders (groom's shoulder's first) in the form of an "8" (the infinity symbol) after they have exchanged their vows - to symbolize their everlasting union.  If the new family includes children they should be included inside the lasso. Either the officiate or the families put the lasso around the couple which they wear for the entire ceremony. The lasso is then taken off and given to the bride as her reminder of her marriage. Lassos are made from beads, ribbons, flowers, or any other forms of decoration.

Officiate- The Lasso is a wedding ritual in which _________and________ are bound together with a ceremonial rope. Each have consented to the Lassoing symbolically stating that they are marrying of their own free will.  It is symbolic also of the two separate lives that have now become one.  Marriage is an eternal and sacred bond to which you are entering today.  You are not only making your vows before each other but you are also making those vows before God.

Hold hands and looking into the eyes of your partner, answer together these questions.

Bride and groom- We will Do you promise to be faithful to each other? Bride and groom- We will Will you honor and respect each other? Bride and groom- We will Will you share the load of the other and ease their pain?

Bride and groom- We will

Will you laugh, looking always joy and positive in the each other?

 Bride and groom- We will.

Officiate or family member place the lasso in the form of a lemniscate, the horizontal eight, and the symbol of infinity around the couple.

Officiate-You are bound together now and forever.

The Officiate blesses the couple and removes the lasso and gives it to the couple.

THIRTEEN COIN CEREMONY

This custom began in Spain and carried on usually in Hispanic weddings. It is a symbolic ceremony where the groom  signifies he will support her  and turns over his possessions to his bride for safekeeping and showing his trust in her and his willingness to support his new family. Acceptance by the bride shows that she accepts his trust and promises to handle his estate with honesty and thriftiness.   They are carried in a ornate box or tray, or sometimes carried in a special heirloom bag and are presented to the bride and passed down generation to generation.

According to oral tradition, the number 13 represents Christ and his 12 apostles. Some believe that the thirteen coins represent the 12 lunar cycles of a year, and the thirteenth coin symbolizes the couple's honeymoon.

Smashing of the Glass Ceremony

The smashing of the glass at the end of a wedding comes from the Jewish tradition and said to recall the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem. Over time the meaning has broadened and today the officiate also relates the following: The glass symbolizes the marriage and like the glass, a marriage can never return to its pristine condition once the vows the couple makes are broken. One moment of indiscretion, deceit, or dishonesty between the couple shatter the marriage like the glass is shattered, with pieces that can never be put back together.

On a lighter note, some say that smashing the glass will be the last time the groom will every put his foot down. Following the “You may now kiss your bride”, the best man sets the glass wrapped in a towel on the ground before the groom who then smashes it with his foot which brings laughter and clapping from the guests and the yelling of "Mazel Tov."

JUMPING THE BROOM AND OR THE SWORD

This tradition of jumping the broom is traced back to the African American culture.  According to this tradition the jumping symbolic of the jumping into a new life and a new family with the broom symbolic of sweeping away their past.

A very similar tradition comes from the Celtic ceremony of jumping the sword. Some Celtic hand fasting ceremonies use both the sword and the broom which are carried to the altar by the bride and the groom.  The bride carries the broom and the sword is carried to the altar by the groom.  They lay them first, the broom and then the groom cross the broom with his sword, showing his protection of her. Following the wedding service, the couple jump over the sword/and or broom as they leave the altar.  In this tradition, the act is a symbol of the first work that the bride and groom perform as a couple in the life they have agreed to share.

planting a tree?

Most Jewish weddings conclude with the groom stamping on a glass wrapped in a cloth. This unusual ritual has its roots deep in Jewish history and identity. The glass-smashing ceremony often concludes the wedding service, and the successful smashing is heralded by shouts of “Mazel tov!” and general rejoicing

Several different meanings have been devised for the ceremony. One interpretation is that the fragility of the glass symbolizes the fragility of trust, commitment and love that make up a marriage; the implication being that couples must be careful not to 'smash' those qualities. Another view is that the breaking of the glass is a break with the past: the marriage is to last as long as the glass remains broken, ie. forever. Breaking the glass may also be a reminder to the wedding guests not to get drunk and forget themselves at the wedding reception. Jewish men may also joke at the wedding that this is the last time the groom gets to 'put his foot down'!

THE CIRCLING CEREMONY

Called Hakafot, the custom is taken from the Jewish tradition.  The bride and groom are married under the huppah, a canopy over the place where couple stands.  The father of the bride escorts his daughter to the altar where the groom waits.  She leaves her father and circles the groom seven times symbolizing that the groom is the center of her world. The number seven corresponds to the seven marriage blessings bestowed on the bride and the groom.

 BUTTERFLY RELEASE CEREMONY

Just a few safeguards for the safety of the butterflies need to be adhered too.  Release the butterflies only during daylight hours and never on a rainy day. Be sure the temperate is above 65 to 70 degrees and not later than two hours before sunset allowing them time to eat and find a place to hide for the night. Protect them from a strong wind.

WHITE DOVE RELEASE

Called white doves, the universal symbol of peace and love,  the birds that are used for a wedding release is the white homing pigeon  The bird was chosen as the symbol of love because the white dove chooses its mate for life.  They are released at the end of the wedding and add a romantic and touching tone to the ceremony.  The birds can be ordered through most pet stores.

UNITY CANDLE

This ceremony can be added to any service. The Unity Candle Ceremony can be done in several ways and should be adapted to suit the circumstances of the bridal couple.  Sometimes the mothers of the bride and groom are asked to light the single candles which according to the wind., if  the ceremony is held outside, will happen before the service begins or if necessary due to the wind conditions be lit just before the Unity Candle Ceremony. If you are creating a new family you may want to include the children in the lighting of the Unity Candle. Often this is done by having the bride and groom light the candle for the children and then everyone lighting the center candle together. This is an excellent way to involve children from a previous marriage   The bridal couple can invite grandparents or other special people in their life to join them in this symbolic gesture.

The Unity Candle ceremony requires two tapered candles and one large center candle. Due to wind concerns it it is an outdoor wedding, a glass container should be considered. The candles can be any color, but are usually white. The ceremony has no religious leanings.

UNITY CANDLE

READING ONE

Officiate Reads- The two outside candles on the table are lit to represent your lives up to this moment. They are two distinct lights, which are capable of going their separate ways.  To bring the happiness our Creator designed for your home, there must be a merging of these two lights into one light.    From now on, your thoughts shall be for each other, rather than for your individual selves.  Your plans shall be mutual, your joys and sorrows shall be shared. As you each take a candle and together light the center one, and extinguish your own candles, you will be allowing the center candle to represent the union of your lives into one flesh. As this one light cannot be divided, neither shall your lives be divided.  May the radiance of this one light be a testimony of your love and your unity within your marriage.

UNITY CANDLE

READING TWO

The two outer candles represent your individual lives before today. They represent all that you are from your vast experiences, and they represent your individual families. As you each take a single candle and light the center candle. From now on their thoughts shall be for each other rather than for yourself. Joys and sadness will darken your life together, but you will not face this alone. You will share the joy and help life the burden of sorrow.  As the light cannot be separated, neither shall your lives be divided and you will bask in the light of the Lord.

The couple hold hand after lighting the candle and walk around the table and back to the wedding officiate. This is symbolic of their first life's journey together.

THE WEDDING WISH BALLOON CEREMONY

Following the wedding, a balloon can be released by the bridal couple. Sometimes  each guest is given a balloon to which is attached a card with the name and address of the bridal couple with a note asking that the card be returned along with where the card was found.  Also on the card is written by each guest, their wish for the newly married couple.  The bridal couple releases their balloons first and as the helium filled balloon soar to the heights, the guests all release their balloons.  This is a sight that will not soon be forgotten.

 Multi-colored liquids in vials

UNITY WATER CEREMONY

Traditionally couples perform this Unity Water Ritual at the end of their wedding ceremony signifying they are joined in marriage. The water ceremony is a take off from   the sand blending ceremony when water is substituted for the colored sand. The bride and groom pour  a colored water from separate vessels into one container that symbolizes their unbreakable union. Food coloring, powdered tempera  Acrylic, latex paints, RIT®, Tintex, and coloring matter which will mix with water are also suitable. Do not use oil-base products since oil and water do not mix.  If children are involved in the new family, they can also be brought up to be a part of the ceremony.  The water is a purifier that washes away the past and makes everything new and fresh for the future.

Groom-______________holds the container of yellow water. Yellow is the color of sunshine. The color yellow represents joy and happiness. It also stands for wisdom.

Bride -______________holds the container of blue water.  Blue represents confidence, trust. and faithfulness.

Officiate- As we look at the empty vessel before you, we are reminded about the life you are about to begin. This is the moment of a new beginning for each of you.  From this moment you will create a new relationship that of husband and wife.

Groom____ ____ as you pour your yellow water into the container you bring sunshine and wisdom to your marriage. And  (bride)________as you pour your blue water into the marriage vessel, you bring confidence, trust and loyalty to your marriage.

The blending of the yellow and blue water creates green representing the blending of your lives together as one. The color green represents stability, endurance, growth and harmony.

May your marriage always reflect these qualities. May your energies in this marriage blend just as equally as your give freely of yourself while honoring the greatness of each other.
